Cape Town Weather

To find out the latest weather in Cape Town as well as extended weather forecasts for Cape Town, visit Iafrica.com’s Cape Town Weather page.

Cape Town has a reasonably stable annual weather pattern with rain during the winter months (June - September) and fair weather for the rest. From experience the temperatures seldomly dip below 12 degrees during the winter days and usually averages around 18 degrees. During summer (November - March) the weather is fair to hot with temperatures ranging between 22 and 35 degrees celcius.

The traditional South Easterly wind (the Cape Doctor) blows during the summer months, but there are more days without wind that with wind. When it blows it also tends to blow mid to late afternoon, with calm mornings. Sometimes you do however get the odd 3 day stint of persistent wind. During spring we also tend to get more South Easterly winds. It’s definately not unpleasant though and some beaches like Clifton are totally shielded from the South East.

We don’t really get thunder storms, but the winter months do see good rain. We’ve been on water restrictions lately due to a very dry summer last time round, but luckily we’ve had enough rain this winter. Please use tap water (which is perfectly safe to drink by the way) sparingly! The longest bouts of rain are usually 4-5 days and there are some wonderful sunny days inbetween.
