Tank, de Waterkant, Cape Town

Had some dinner at Tank the other night and I must say their sushi is divine. This Cape Town restaurant has a nice bar and big restaurant area, which still gets busy even on off nights during the week. They also have an outside section in the busy courtyard of the Cape Quarter development. It’s close to night clubs like Opium and Pulse so you’re in for a buzzling night out. The atmosphere is quite clinical, almost cold, but I guess that’s attributed to the fish tank feel. There’s a large fish tank with exotic fish in the middle of the restaurant. Check out their website on The-Tank.co.za.

Mamma Mia at Artscape Theatre

Went to see Mamma Mia last night at Artscape Theatre in Cape Town, and it was quite spectacular. I really enjoyed the feet tapping ABBA tunes and great outfits. What I enjoyed most was how it was all integrated with a simple yet captivating storyline of a girl wanting to find out who her real dad is before her wedding day. She invites 3 ‘possible matches’ to the wedding and in the days before the wedding the story humourously unfolds.

The quality of sound was bad initially (we sat up on the gallery). We couldn’t hear the words, but it progressively got better. The band is absolutely amazing and played exact renditions of the famous ABBA songs sometimes with a twist. Tickets can be booked at Computicket and the show is still on until the 15th of July 2006.

David Gray in Cape Town

The famous artist David Gray is performing at the Bellville Veladrome tonight (9th of June). Famous for his accoustic rock music and mellow sounds, it’s sure going to be a great performance. Tickets can be booked at Computicket.co.za. There should be limited tickets left.

ATM’s and travellers cheques

I was recently asked about the availability of ATM’s in Cape Town and where to cash in travellers cheques. Well, ATM’s are widely available and accept all major cards. With regards to cashing in travellers cheques (checks for Americans), some major hotels will accept your travellers cheques, but there are also many exchange bureaus available around the city (usually at the big banks like ABSA, First National Bank, Nedbank, Standard Bank etc) to exchange your travellers cheques for cash. You won’t have any problems spending money! If you have any other questions about travelling to Cape Town, just post a comment here and I will answer in as much detail as possible…
