Out of the Box Festival Cape Town

This coming Saturday, 30 August 2008, Cape Town will explode in an array of colour and whimsy as a parade of gigantic puppets take to the streets as part of the Out of the Box Festival.

The French Institute, in collaboration with Alliances Françaises in South Africa and Lesotho, will present Les Grandes Personnes. In a creative collaboration between French and local artists, a family of four gigantic puppets, measuring up to four metres tall, will stage À la Corde, which aims to draw audience members of both young and old into the imaginative world of a little boy called Odilon. The puppets will be joined by a life-sized Elephant created by Solms Delta with Sogo Theatre.

Spectators will be able and encouraged to take part in the different stages of Odilon’s life, using their hands and voices, repeating sentences and passing sculptures around.

Les Grandes Personnes will parade through Cape Town this Saturday and Sunday, after which the tour will continue throughout South Africa. The parade kicks off at the Alliançes Françaises (located at 155 Loop St) at 2pm.

The road less travelled - R62

We’re getting some information together about this special route. It’s an alternative way to get from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn and really a spectacular drive.

Barrydale

Barrydale is about 2.5 hours drive from Cape Town through scenic wine farms (Robertson Valley) on to the R62. It’s a beautiful little town nestled between mountains and farms, with amazing views and people.

Visit Lentelus, a Farm Stay Bed & Breakfast in Barrydale for an amazing experience.

Also be sure to visit the Fish & Chips shop (and no they don’t sell fish & chips funny enough) for the coolest curios and stuff you can only find in a town like Barrydale.

Further the Jam Tarts is a quaint little restaurant on the main road that serves up a mean pizza and the people are extremely friendly.

Also visit the Warmwaterberg Spa, natural hot springs just outside town and don’t forget Ronnie’s Sex Shop on the way of course. Many a lady have lost their knickers in the early hours of the morning, but it’s actually just a pub that’s world famous for it’s amazing venue and parties.

Well worth a visit!
