J&B Met

If you want to do some star-gazing in broad daylight in Cape Town this weekend, then the Kenilworth race track will be just the place to be tomorrow, 31 January 2009.

South Africa’s best groomed are expected to dazzle at the annual J&B Met, one of the most prestigious horse racing events in the country. And when we say ‘best groomed’, we’re NOT just referring to the thoroughbred race horses!

The theme for this year’s event (one of THE social events in the country, where the rich and famous don their finest in an attempt to upstage the horses) is glitz and glamour, and we are sure that most of the VIPs will happily comply and be suitably glitzy.

For those who don’t wish to get all dressed up but still want to be in the swing of things, general tickets are available at R150. This includes a betting voucher for R10 and a J&B Met Race Card. It needs to be noted that the General Entrance ticket gives you access to Kenilworth Racecourse only and not to any of the reserved areas in the buildings and the marquee village.

Blouberg Self-Catering Accommodation

If you’re looking to rent a house on the beach, look no further. Situated in Blouberg Strand, just 25 minutes north of Cape Town, Blaauwberg House is the perfect beach house to rent for relaxing break. Whether you are a business traveller or tourist, the house and its location will charm you into never wanting to leave. 5 minutes walk away is Big Bay beach, a popular surfing, wind surfing and kite surfing spot and various local restaurants also within short walking distance (closest being almost on your doorstep).

The beach is 50 meters away and unobtrusive sea views from the property is one of its key features. Let the sea lull you to sleep and redefine yourself with a well deserved break. The house sleeps 6, with two seafacing bedrooms (doubles) and one street facing room (two singles). The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom.

The kitchen has all self-catering appliances and flows into an open plan dining and lounge area. The lower level has a big patio with braai facilities and a sunroom for lazy afternoon relaxation.

The sun sets right over Robben Island which sits just on the horison in full view of the lounge and patio areas. Jump now, as there are at least 3 months of glorious summer left to top up on that tan!
