Tygerburger Golf Day Extravaganza!

Fundraising in Aid of the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind (SAGA) breeds and trains dogs for a symbiotic partnership, between blind person and dog, that represents one of the finest achievements of human and animal spirit!

One of the Western Cape’s exclusive Golf Courses, the Atlantic Beach Golf Estate is the venue and Tygerburger our Media Sponsor for this Golf Day Extravaganza in aid of South African Guide Dogs Association, which guarantees you to be spoilt to the Tee!

The South African Guide-Dogs Association was founded by Gladys Evans in 1953, after a visit to the “Seeing Eye”, convinced her that with her failing eye-sight, a Seeing Eye dog was the answer.  Gladys was trained with her famous “Sheena” at The G.D.B.A. Training Centre in Leamington Spa, U.K. And on her return the South Africa Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind (SAGA) was born.

Over the years SAGA has gradually grown from training the first dog, Pluto, in 1955 to the point where they currently train 50 dogs per annum.

Each disabled person graduating with a dog is charged a nominal fee of only R5.00 for the dog and R100.00 for accommodation whilst in training and all equipment. To train any one of these dogs costs SAGA in excess of R10 000.00.

The Western Cape has been the recipient of a generous donation to acquire property for our very own breeding and training facility, however, this  centre will need to be maintained with running costs and we depend on public support to be sustainable.

SAGA will be proud to be associated with the leaders in the corporate world and we therefore attach detailed information on our Golf Day Extravaganza for your company’s consideration. Please do not miss out on the opportunity to promote your company at this event.

SAGA is a fully constituted welfare organisation registered with The Director of Fundraising at the Department of Social Development, and is approved as a Public Benefit Organisation in terms of Section 30 of the Income Tax Act, and the receipts and accruals are exempt from Income Tax in terms of section 10(1)(cN) of the Act. Donations are exempt from donations tax in terms of section 56(1)(h) of the Act, and a tax certificate will be issued on request. The organisation receives no government subsidies and, therefore, relies entirely on public and corporate financial support.

Erinvale Golf Estate

Most golf packages in Cape Town include a trip to Erinvale Golf Estate in Somerset West. About 45 minutes drive from Cape Town, in the heart of the Cape winelands, this beautiful Parklands Golf Course (with golf property) was designed by Gary Player, one of South Africa’s most famous golfing exports.

Erinvale was host to the 1996 World Cup of Golf in which 32 nations competed. The par 72 championship course also boasts a signature hole on the 17th with elevated tee and long downhill finish. The course is open for members only on Thursdays and Weekends and otherwise open all other days.

In December and January it’s only open to guests of the Erinvale Hotel & Spa, so make sure to treat yourself to a true golf break in Cape Town. Click on the hotel link for more information.

When quoted about the course, Gary player said: ” As you play through the back nine holes, you climb dramatically up the mountain to enjoy the spectacular view. The sea in the distance and the many wineries for which the Cape is famous are further attractions … I think this will be one of the best golf courses in South Africa .”

Atlantic Beach Golf Club

Atlantic Beach Golf Course is an 18-hole links golf course, located about 25 minutes from Cape Town along the Table Bay curve, near Melkbos. It’s quite a challenging course in that you often have to contend with a fresh ocean breeze and the natural fynbos (indigenous vegetation), which they went out of their way to preserve. The golf course is beautifully maintained and is part of a larger golfing estate, with exclusive luxury upmarket estate property.

They have recently completed a 20 room luxury lodge for guests wanting to make the most of their visit.

Playing golf in Cape Town

Golf players in Cape Town are really blessed in that they have an extremely wide selection of golf course in Cape Town to choose from.

Let’s start from the city centre for our first listing. Metropolitan Golf Course is located in Mouille Point, 5 minutes from the Cape Town CBD (central business district). It’s officially a 9 hole golf course, but with some intelligent green and tee placing to ensure that a second round can be worked in.

If you came to Cape Town for golfing, this course is probably not worth it compared to the big selection you have, but it beats the other hands down when taking it’s location into perspective. It’s not a beautiful course (par 72) and reasonably evenly laid out, but it’s central location will be popular amongs golfers that quickly want to play a round before going on a day trip throughout Cape Town.
